The knife blade was handmade out of tempered, high-carbon, stainless steel. It exhibits high hardness, good toughness, and an excellent edge holding capability. The blade has been hand ground to a fine edge with a thin blade cross-section, and is very sharp. A hair will easily catch on the blade, and it will readily pass the common sharpness test of cleanly slicing newspaper.
The knife features a classic natural shell handle, precision stainless steel bolster. This elegant, practical hunting or survival knife is not only usable, but highly collectible as well. This knife is perfect for day-to-day use, even though it is a collector\'s item. Handmade knives have complex production process and production cycle length. This knife was not made using mass production. Being handmade, every knife is one of a kind, and therefore has special value.
Damascus steel is forge welded using alternating layers of two materials, high-carbon steel, and low carbon iron. The surface is first polished and then acid etched to reveal a variety of patterns that resemble flowing water, called Choi Wan. This pattern of Damascus steel is mainly used in China to produce fine swords. Many valuable ancient Chinese swords were made using the same beautiful pattern.
